How Common Are Car Accidents In Vero Beach?

According to Signal Four Analytics data, there were 828 crashes in Vero Beach in 2022. Over a two-and-a-half year period, there were 40 crashes involving pedestrians and 22 involving bicyclists in the city.

There were five traffic fatalities in Vero Beach in 2022. This included one pedestrian or bicyclist and two motorcyclists. In Indian River County, there were 23 fatal crashes with 25 fatalities. 11 of these fatalities involved confirmed alcohol and/or drugs. 

Vero Beach Car Accidents With Injuries

Of the 2,196 crashes in Indian River County, 914 (41.6%) accidents caused injuries. In 2022, 1,346 injuries were reported from motor vehicle accidents in the county. In Vero Beach alone, crashes caused 14 serious injuries. 

Alcohol was confirmed in 18 injuries, and drugs or drugs and alcohol were confirmed in another five cases. 

How Many Motorcycle, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Accidents Occur In Vero Beach?

Motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are considered vulnerable road users. Because they lack the crash protection of a passenger car or truck, they have a high risk of serious injury or death in a crash.

A 2022 report called “Dangerous by Design” named Florida the second most dangerous state for pedestrians. The report found a high and growing number of pedestrian accidents and deaths in the state. Car-centric road design in Florida’s cities was mostly blamed for pedestrian fatalities.

Hit-and-run crashes are a common problem throughout Florida. In Indian River County, there were 421 hit-and-run accidents in 2022 that caused 96 injuries and one death.
