10 Things To Immediately Do Following a Slip and Fall

When you’ve been injured in a slip and fall accident, time is of the essence. Our team understands that knowing what to do in a case like this may seem confusing and even embarrassing – but we seek to stand by you and help. We’ve created a pathway for you in case of this kind of accident, because knowing how to proceed is half the battle –  here are 10 things to do immediately following a slip and fall:

  1.  Find a store manager a complete an incident report. Be sure to ask the manager for a copy of the incident report before you leave.
  2. Take photographs of the substance which you slipped on before it is cleaned up by store employees. Be sure to take photographs of the surrounding area as well as the immediate area where you fell.
  3.  If you are in pain, tell the store manager exactly what part of your body is hurting you when the incident report is being completed.   If you are offered medical assistance, do not be embarrassed to accept it.
  4.  Ask the store manager for a copy of the surveillance video of your fall. Often times, stores have policies that prohibit employees from releasing store surveillance to you, however, there are occasions where you will be given a copy.
  5.  Seek medical attention immediately if you feel any pain. When speaking to your medical care provider explain to them in detail how the accident occurred. It is important that your medical records accurately reflect how the accident occurred.
  6.  Once you are home, save the shoes you were wearing at the time of the accident.  Do not continue to wear the shoes as the insurance company will often want to inspect them in the condition they were in at the time of your fall.
  7.  Write down what you remember from the slip and fall.  As time passes, our memories  of events can fade and we begin to forget details which may be critical to your case in the long run. By documenting your experience shortly after it happened, you are preserving your memories when they are most fresh in your mind.

Graves Thomas Rotunda Injury Law Group Believes In Healthy Start To Car Safety

Graves Thomas Injury Law Group is taking their work personally, gifting Indian River Healthy Start Coalition new infant car seats to help new mothers in the county bring home their bundles of joy more securely.

“We are thrilled to have the support of community partners like Graves Thomas Injury Law Group to create a safer tomorrow for the mommies and babies of Indian River County,” said Healthy Start Coalition Executive Director, Andrea Berry.

Founding attorney Joseph H. Graves and Matthew M. Thomas stopped by the non-profit’s new offices to deliver the brand new convertible infant car seats. State and national statistics show that passengers who are not properly buckled-up are at a much greater risk of serious injury or death in a car wreck – and the risk of serious injury is particularly significant for infants and young children. Florida law requires the use of seat belts or child restraint devices by drivers of motor vehicles, and children ages 0 to 3 must be in child restraint devices of a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer’s integrated child seat.

“In a practice that regularly sees the impact injuries sustained in a car accident injuries can have, we recognize the importance of proper restraints for children,”  commented Graves, “By providing car seats to those who may not have access otherwise helps to truly provide a healthy start for our area families.”

Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition offers a broad spectrum of programs to ensure that every pregnant woman and their young children receive all necessary healthcare and support services, from prenatal resources, childbirth education and touchpoints in the first years. Healthy Start oversees a variety of classes and support roles that impact over 91% of the families in the county and endeavor to decrease infant mortality, increase familial connections while expanding a child’s horizons.
